What needs to happen for bitcoin to see its true potential

So I’m fairly new to BTC but I love the idea of it and watching this video inspires me for the future, to see a solution (right or wrong) but nevertheless some type of answer to a lot of the problems we face in our country (USA) using a broken money system. Realistically what needs to happen for BTC to realize its purpose? Do grocery stores and business need to adopt payment systems to be able to buy and sell everyday things using BTC? Do company’s need to start paying their employees using BTC? Because right now it seems like it’s only worth something being backed by our belief that it’ll turn into something useful as a currency in the future, if so what would need to happen? If I’m just totally missing the point here too let me know I just am really fascinated and want to learn!
